The dialects of Liguria

As far as Ligurian traditions are concerned, we must speak of dialects , of which the most frequent is " u zeneise ", the Genoese .

The Ligurian-type dialects derive from late Latin on a pre-Roman Ligurian substrate but the various influences have led to the birth of three main dialects:

dialects of the west , with Provençal sounds;

Eastern dialects influenced by Tuscan;

Genoese dialects developed for the commercial activities of the Ligurian capital.
